The End, Abruptly

It’s time for this blog to die. In the next few weeks, I’ll be packing up as my husband and I prepare for an unexpected move back to New York. (New job, nothing bad.) And although I’m sad to be leaving London, I am also happy to be returning. A few things I’ll miss: the smell of Cornish pasties in the subway, the architecture lit up along the river at night, tiny green parks that pop up where you least expect them, the vast array of Indian ingredients available at regular grocery stores, and heated towel racks.

This will be my last blog post here, but if you’re interested, head over to snyppet to see what I’ve got planned next.

And thanks for reading.

How sad!! I'm looking forward to the new blog, but I will miss New Yorker in London. Great job! Dad

Gosh! Well, good luck in New York, and thanks for the interesting posts you've made on this blog — I hope you'll be leaving it up, since I've linked to quite a few of your posts!

It's amazing how little anticipation (none) you showed in previous posts.

Endings are so wistful to me (is a blog like a book? for a while I have thought of this blog as a good example of a new literary genre), but also satisfying and invigorating at the same time. From the title itself, I always expected an end. Snyppet seems indefinite.

Hi Kake. I wish I'd found your website sooner: very nice. And yes, I will leave the blog up, so no worries.

And Radu: thanks for being such a faithful reader. Sorry for no warning on the end, but that's how life is, you know? I'll do my best to win you over again with the next one.

I'm disappointed to see you go -- it was nice to read the impressions of someone who seemed to love the same things about both cities that I love -- but I wish you all the best back in NYC. Enjoy Esca and the 24-hour subway and all the other wonderful things NYC has to offer.

Sorry that I've waited until your last post to de-lurk, but I just wanted to say I've really enjoyed your blog, and have gotten some great restaurant recs from it. I moved from NYC to London in 2006. I'm really looking forward to reading your new blog, and seeing New York vicariously through you.

Hi Em: thanks for your good wishes! It was fun to "chat" with you on this blog once in a while and maybe we'll reconnect one day in NYC. You never know.

And Kate: good to hear from you, even if at the end! Thanks for your kind words and it's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the blog. Cheers!

I guess it was inevitable . . . the life of the expat. But I'm sorry to see you go. That said, I'm super jealous you'll be returning the land of 24-hour everything, quality slices and bagels just the way you like it. Good luck with your move back, and please let me know how it feels after having lived in London.

Hi AiL: Don't be too jealous because I'm sure you'll have to go back one day, too, right? Enjoy your time here while you have it. And if you get desperate for any American items, let me know! (I'm still going to follow your restaurant reviews for London and elsewhere because those have been wonderful and I don't want to miss out!)

Please know that your blog, and the manner in which you put it together, was much appreciated and enjoyed.

Have a great rest-of-the-summer, safe travels, and thanks again for the most pleasant read!

Best,
Paula

Tara -- It's odd to feel sad that I will not be reading more new things on your take of life in the UK; but at the same time I am excited to check up on your new blog. I know both will be handy to read as I commute back forth as well. Thank you SO much for sharing your insights, thoughts and observations! Steph

Hi Paula: Thanks so much for your kind words and for following along with my adventures from afar. I look forward to catching up with you in person once we get back to NYC.

Hi Steph: Thanks for your kind words as well. How cool for you that you get to commute and live in two worlds at once! I look forward to seeing what happens on your blog and to comparing expat insights. Cheers.

Well, I'm not so sad that this blog is ending, only because it means you will be back in my city!! Yay!! And I can enjoy your quips and observations of the world around you face to face instead of accross the 'pond' via email. Sorry so late in posting, I'm sitting here on the slopes of Haleakala on Maui, had a hell of a time getting a web connection... Welcome home!!

Hi Juli: I, too, am having trouble with web connections, but from Scotland, which is about as opposite from Hawaii as you can get, I think. Thanks for reading along with the blog over the years, and I, too, look forward to doing it in person for a bit!

Hi Douglas and thanks! Looking forward to keeping up with the European scene via your blog. Cheers.
